100 days of a 365 project

100/365 100 days, 100 photos taken and edited. When I set out to do this project I knew it wouldn't be easy. I worried about a few different things, but my main concern was that I knew it would be impossible to take a photo I was in love with every single day. Did I want that attached to my business instagram? This has proved to be true, of course I cannot take a photo I love every single day, and in fact lots of days I have to “settle” for something I don’t love, but what I didn't expect was the opportunity for growth this "disappointment" would gift me. I suppose I could have had an instagram full of all my “best” shots, and that would have been lovely but it wouldn’t have represented where I am in this journey. It would have made the perfectionist part of myself happy, but that isn’t what this is all about for me. I choose being a life long learner, I choose being authentic and true, I choose making mistakes instead of my envisioned “perfect” instagram page. It is OK that I can't take a photo that I am in love with every day. I am human. Some days I am full of life, well rested, optimistic and creative, and other days I feel like I'm treading water, barely keeping my head afloat and finding the inspiration to even pick up my beloved camera can be difficult. On these days I am practicing acceptance. I don't have to be perfect, this project, above all, was started to bring me joy, to be a gift for my children, a year of life documented. I am OK with whatever comes my way in the next 265 days, and if this is my only lesson, to accept and embrace it ALL, I will feel successful and proud ❤

Shoot and Share Contest

I was excited to be able to enter my first contest this year.
I entered 50 photos into a worldwide contest called Shoot and Share. There were half a million entries and these are my results.. Super proud to have made it as far as I did in my first year of business. Placement is written on each photo. 💜 Thanks to all my family, friends, clients and the Steps Ahead Dance faculty and dancers for the support and helping me create amazing images! If you zoom in on the top right you can see the badges. These are screenshots from my cell phone so please note the quality is majorly compromised!

I am already planning my next years entries!

Christmas mini sessions!

Christmas Mini Sessions in November are always a guessing game on the westcoast when the weather could be unseasonably warm, pouring rain or even snowing, so I decided to use Hummingbird Valley Farm’s barn again as it’s beautiful and provides a bit of shelter from the elements for my clients.

Of course the weather leading up to the sessions was amazing but the actual day was dreary, wet and miserable. Under the barn it was dry and cozy and even though I was out in the elements the smiles and interactions between siblings warmed me up and I didn’t actually notice how wet I was until I got in my car at the end of the day! On the westcoast you really have to be prepared for any type of weather, but it goes without saying to expect RAIN! I improvised with an umbrella down the back of my jacket to protect my gear and got some good laughs!

Thanks to all the families who braved the weather and brought their beautiful smiles. Warm holiday wishes from my family to yours <3

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog, I hope to use this to keep you up to date of upcoming sessions and events as well as to share sessions.

I can’t believe its November, feels like summer just ended and we are already thinking about Christmas! I had lots of fun with the colourful autumn days this year and spent lots of time behind my lens hanging out with beautiful people. Heres a sample of some of what I did this fall!

I had the honour of doing a photoshoot for Steps Ahead Dance Performance Group. These girls and their awesome dance teachers are so much fun! We were thrilled that the rain held off, when the weather man said it was a 90% chance of rain and the girls were troopers in the chilly fall weather. My daughter and I are thankful for this awesome opportunity in her life, to work with and be inspired by dancers of all ages and we are both grateful to be part of the Steps Ahead family. Thanks to the Steps Ahead Performance faculty and Lorraine Blake for organizing and directing this fun afternoon.

Christmas Mini Sessions are coming up! November 24th and 25th at the Barn. Limited spots available. Christmas music, Christmas lights and a big red barn! Message or call today to book your spot! 250-589-3766

Last but not least I am SO excited to be part of this amazing event with the awesome staff of Lucky Paws Pet Supply. I’m not going to lie its probably going to be the cutest day of my life! Hope to see some of you and your furry friends there.

Thanks for reading! Warm wishes for the upcoming season.
